It is difficult to face to my own culture if I stay in one same place. One person has his or her own culture from each place. But for Japanese people, they don’t have a lot of chances to think about their own culture. Because there are not many cultures in Japan. Japan has only one culture. Which means Japanese don’t have a chance to face to other culture in Japan.
Japanese people should go to abroad to think about their own culture. Once Japanese go out to other culture, it is much easier to think about own culture. You will see wrong points or good points to realize about culture.
It is so much fun to notice, what wrong points are. Let’s get out of your place if you stay in long time.
I agree with you, Taka, that people need to travel to other places to learn about their own culture. You lose sense to what your own culture is about if you stay in it your entire life. But I don’t agree that Japan has just one culture. I think that Japan has many cultures (called “subcultures”) that you just need to look for to find them. A lot of Japanese think that their culture is homogenous, unchanging from one town or prefecture to the next, but this isn’t true. Just consider the types of local languages from Hokkaido all the way down to Okinawa. There are so many and they vary so much! When in Japan, I want to learn about and experience these different parts of the larger “Japanese” culture.

Thank you for your visit in my blog and comment. I really like such comment because it is not easy to think or feel for me what you just said above. You are right. We don’t realize that we have “subcultures” in each local region. I think it is too close if I am in one region. However, once we see or face to other places, we should see or find one small difference. There are so many differences in each region. It is fun thing to compare with another. But human is amazing. Each person has their own feelings. And they are all different because of region or environment. Some people like to see those differences. And they can enjoy the moment. But some people don’t care about the differences.
